Artist's statement: My contemporary mosaics combine classical handmade Italian glass and gold smalti with ceramics and found objects to depict everyday themes--from cooking to love. I also make replicas of ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine mosaics to hone my skills and enjoy sharing the experiences of these masters of antiquity.
Bio: Since my teen years I have worked in oils, watercolor, printmaking and, since 1999, mosaics. My formal art training began at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1959, and I have studied in Madrid, Spain, as well as in Ravenna and Venice, Italy. I hold a Master of Clinical Art Therapy. I contributed multiple of 100 assemblages to a number of editions of Art-Life Limited Editions, collected by numerous institutions, such as Yale University. My mosaics are in private collections in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Marin County and Madrid, Spain, and have been exhibited at the Society of American Mosaic Artists Traveling Mosaic "Quilt" 2004-2006 and at many local art shows and venues. |
